Children weaving in and out of trees they promenade

Cicada in a bird’s claw
The things they see before they know

Wind the threads that make a life – wild grasses twisted tight
Secret passed from lip to lip, in the hieroglyphic light
Sprinkler in hypnotic sway, mockingbird sounds her alarm
Pliant limbs & scrawny waists up up up in mothers’ arms

There it was and there it goes
Sparrow in a cat’s paw
The things they see before they know
What it is that they saw

Our two worlds side by side, the line is soft and blurred
Sometimes we let things slip by, something’s overheard
Oh to be as light as they, these angels with their sprightly games
We spring them out into our world but they don’t even know our names
